Say Hello to Hunza G
Why we love this iconic label and the Julia Roberts moment that started it all...
We welcome Hunza G back with open arms to our Resort '21 collection. As huge fan girls for years, we are so excited to bring the iconic swimwear back to steelelabel.com for a second year running.
Established in 1984 by Peter Meadows, Hunza rose to global fame when Julia Roberts wore "that dress" in Pretty Woman, an iconic moment for the brand, known for its signature, crinkle-stretch fabrication and high-cut, leggy designs.

In 2015, after a 23 year hiatus it was reborn as 'Hunza G'. Under the new Creative Direction of Georgiana Huddart, it became the swimwear brand that we know and love today.
Georgiana Huddart, Creative Director
“Nostalgia is powerful in everything not just fashion... For me, the crinkle fabric always reminded me of the my mother pregnant or me playing in the sea with my siblings. For others, it’s wearing Hunza with blue eyeshadow and huge shoulderpads – things they would probably rather forget. That’s why it was important to revive it with a different aesthetic but also stay true to its ‘80s heritage.” - Huddart told Harper's Bazaar UK in 2018.

A SUSTAINABLE APPROACH
Sustainability is at the core of Hunza G, as is their commitment to design swimwear for all - just two of the reasons why we love the brand so much.
They take a one size fit inclusive approach, made possible by the fabric’s unique stretch and support to provide strong, flattering shapes for a wide range of body types.
Each item is made to order in-studio, meaning no deadstock fabric or wastage. They also dye their fabric locally, decreasing their emissions and helping to promote a stronger fashion production industry within the UK.
THE CULT FOLLOWING
Today, Hunza G has a cult following, lead by celebrities such as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Hailey Bieber and Kim Kardashian-West.
